    Gov. Kaine to Chair DNC; Obama to unveil big tax cuts (Jennifer Read)
    Two big national Dem stories: 1) WashPo reports that Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine will take over as Chair of the DNC later this month; and 2) P-e Obama will unveil a "record-setting economic stimulus" plan, which will include plans to purpose a "huge tax cuts for businesses and middle-class workers."

    Nine for ’09? (Jennifer Read)
    The State has compiled a list of nine S.C. political figures whom it believes will influence national politics this year. Overall, it's a solid list, though I would have ranked Clyburn ahead of Graham and I have no idea what DeMint's doing on there -- especially since conservative GOP leaders are about as en vogue right now as platform shoes, bell-bottoms and other Nixon-Era paraphernalia.     Obama volunteers seek new missions (Jennifer Read)

    Abortion bill takes center stage in SC's '09 session (Jennifer Read)

    Maria Kotula at WCNC has more on the proposed bill that would expand South Carolina's so-called "ultrasound law."

    If passed, the bill would lengthen the mandatory wait time from 1 hour to 24 hours. It would also stipulate that health care providers give women a list of clinics that give free ultrasounds. Read full article and watch the report here.

    AP: Furloughs: A vacation from your paycheck (Jennifer Read)

    The Associated Press wins "Title of the Day" award with this one. Examines the rising trend in "companies, colleges using unpaid time off to avoid firings and stay in business." The State's version also includes an insert in which you can track how state agencies are responding to the $1 billion in budget cuts levied against them since July.
